Wrestling rules

The main objective for the wrestling game is to pin your opponent. When someone puts the opponent down, with his back on the mat for 2 seconds, that person is declared the winner. If none of the two players is pinned, than the winner is the one that has the most points. Points can be achieved by five methods during a wrestling match.

Takedown is worth 2 points and represents taking the opponent down on the mat and controlling him or her. Escape (1 point) is given to a wrestler for getting away or in a neutral spot if the opponent has put that wrestler down on the mat. Reversal is a 2 point move, when the player is put down on the pat, but the player comes from underneath and gains control of the opponent.

Near Fall, with 2 or 3 points, is the move when the opponent is almost pinned to the ground. In the near fall, both shoulders are held for two seconds within four inches of the mat, or one is one the mat and the other at 45 degrees towards the mat or the wrestler is held in a high bridge on both elbows. For a 2 second Near Fall, 2 points are given, while for a 5 second one, the player receives 3 points.

Penalty points are given to a player if he commits one of the forbidden moves. Illegal holds are the ones for which the referee penalizes the player without any warning. Technical violations like going off the mat, grabbing clothing, locked hands or a 4 head scissors from a neutral position also constitute a reason for giving penalty points. Useless roughness, a conduct not fit for an athlete, misconduct or stalling are also some moves that are not permitted.
